Kendo Ontario New Year Godo Keiko

Happy New Year and Best Wishes for 2018 !

This is a friendly reminder that Kendo Ontario’s New Year Godo Keiko will be held this Sat Jan 13, 2018 @ 1:00pm @ Nikka Gakuen Kendo dojo.

This is an excellent opportunity to start the year by sharing keiko with Senior Sensei and friends in the Kendo community.

Special Note:

This year, the event will be hosted by Nikka Gakuen Kendo Club!!

It’s a pleasure to see Nikka Gakuen Kendo Club grow and mature over the years and we are pleased that they have volunteered to host this year’s New Year Godo Keiko.

In addition to hosting Godo Keiko, the parents of the junior members of Nikka Gakuen will be serving light refreshments in the form of OZONI (traditional rice cake in soup) to participants.

Please join us for the first Godo Keiko of 2018!

Time:                  1:00 p.m. to approximately 2:30 p.m., followed by light refreshments (Ozoni – traditional rice cake in soup)

Kagami Biraki at Hamilton Kendo Club

The Hamilton Kendo Club is hosting a Kagami Biraki on Sunday, January 21, 2018.

Godo Keiko will be from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., followed by the Kagami Biraki at 3:00 p.m.

There is no fee for this event but donations would be greatly appreciated to help cover costs. Please RSVP to [email protected] by January 17, 2017.

2018 Kendo Ontario Godo Keiko

2018 Detroit Open Kendo Tournament Date Announced

From the Detroit Kendo Dojo Tournament Committee:

“We cordially invite you to join us once again for a weekend of competition, camaraderie, and kendo as we host the 20th Annual Detroit Open Kendo Tournament on Sunday, February 18, 2018.

Please also consider joining us on Saturday the 17th for a seminar led by Kendo Kyoshi 8 Dan Fumihiro Miyazaki Sensei of the Kanagawa Prefecture Police Department and the 1997 All Japan Kendo Champion and Emperor’s Cup Winner.

Kiwada Sensei – Toronto Schedule and Invitation

As previously posted, Daiki Kiwada Sensei (7 Dan, Renshi / 2012 All Japan Champion / 2009, 2012 World Champion Team Division) from Osaka Police will be visiting Canada from Sep 30th – Oct 11th.

Kiwada Sensei’s visit is made possible largely by the relationship between Chuo University and the University of Toronto.  He will be visiting Montreal / Toronto / Vancouver.

Kiwada Sensei’s Toronto Keiko Schedule (Oct 1-6) is as follows:

  1. Sunday, October 1:
    Location: JCCC
    Time: 10:00 a.m. ~ noonAs this will be the first keiko for Kiwada Sensei in Canada, we would like to take this opportunity to have Kiwada Sensei get an understanding of the level of Kendo in Canada. He will thus observe keiko in the beginning and then join motodachi-geiko. This practice is open to all who are able to attend.
  2. Wednesday, October 4:
    Location: Etobicoke Kendo & Iaido Club
    Time: 7:00 ~ 9:00 p.m.This practice will be shiai-geiko followed by motodachi-geiko and is open to all who are able to attend.
  3. Thursday, October 5:
    Location: University of Toronto Kendo Club
    Time: 9:00 ~ 10:30 p.m.Practice will be motodachi-geiko and is open to all who are able to attend.
  4. Friday, October 6:
    Location: JCCC
    Time: 7:00 ~ 8:00 p.m.This will be a motodachi-geiko practice open to all who are able to attend.Following this practice, there will be a further session from 8:00~10:00 p.m. for Team Canada members only.

Schedule is subject to change and updates will be posted on the Kendo Ontario website, Facebook page and Twitter.

We are very fortunate to have Kiwada Sensei visit Canada.  Please take advantage of this opportunity to practice with him during his stay.

University of Waterloo’s 30th Anniversary event – Sep. 30th

Team Ontario – Open Shiai practice

From Johnson sensei:

At the upcoming Canadian National Kendo Championships, there will be a team shiai between provinces. Currently we have 3 Ontario Provincial Coaches, Eddie Yamashita, Shane Asa and Koichi Miyamoto. They have been holding regular practices and are in the final process of selecting the members for the three Provincial Teams, Men, Women and Juniors. On Sunday July 23, 10 am at Ryerson University, there will be an Open Shiai practice with these players. The Coaches would like to invite kendo players in Ontario to come out and challenge the members to a match. Let’s support the Team Members and help them win at the CKF Championships in August.

11th Annual Keishicho Sensei Open Seminar for Kendo

We are pleased to announce that the Annual Keishicho (Tokyo Police Force) Sensei Kendo Seminar hosted by Kendo Ontario and Etobicoke Olympium Kendo / Iaido Club will be held once again this year.

Last year we were fortunate to have Nakayama Sensei lead such a successful seminar. This year, we will have as our invited guest, Junichi Hata Sensei (7 Dan) to lead the seminar.
